Health through ConsistencyI know, Subscriber First Name, that “consistency” is not the word you’d normally associate with someone like me, a 7. However, we’re here to break stereotypes, right? What many people tell me, their voice dropping into a shame-laden tone, is: “I know I should be doing yoga, but . . . “ I’m here to tell you: Don’t shoulda on yourself. Moving your body does not have to happen in a yoga class. Exercise does not need to be something that requires you to change your clothes. It’s true, I’m not great at consistency. I respect that this is part of how I am wired, so I have created a personal definition of consistency that, while too loose for some other types, works well for me. In regard to my health, I ask myself how I can move my body in some way every day. It could be a dog walk, a gentle yoga class, a HIIT class, or just a few sun salutations or seated stretches. An important element here is to find opportunities to move that give you joy! And don’t force yourself to do a hard workout when you don’t want to. Physical movement is inherently tied to our emotional and mental health. This is not about making our bodies look a certain way. This is about general health. When we approach exercise and stretching from a place of self-support and body neutrality, we are more prone to simply move because it just makes us feel good (balanced).
