One of my favorite podcasts is Ologies by Alie Ward. This past week I listened to an episode about pain in which she interviewed a pain psychologist. FASCINATING. My main takeaway, Subscriber First Name, is that all pain is bio-psycho-social, existing on/affected by physical, psychological, and social planes. Since pain is a message sent to the brain via the limbic system (emotional processor), all pain is by nature connected to emotion. Listen to the full episode for a doctor’s better-worded perspective. What I appreciate most about this information is the affirmation of connectedness amongst mind, body, and heart. What we do in yoga is use our bodies to get closer in touch with our thoughts and emotions. It’s all about observation and work toward balance.
