the long road(Important subscriber pricing news at the end, so read all the way down or just skip to it!) Last week on the glorious North Shore of Lake Superior, I took a 2-hour hike with a friend. She has known about the enneagram for at least a decade, but she never could fully come to rest on a number for herself. So, during that walk through magical, mossy woods up to a rocky vista, I did nothing but ask question after question. We narrowed down the options more and more until finally, she came to an answer. I asked, “How do you feel about that number for you?” Her response, “You know, I always thought that’s what I might be.” I’ll check back in with her in a few months and see if she still feels that her conclusion made in the North Woods after years of pondering still makes sense. There are no quick fixes or answers when it comes to the enneagram, and that’s what makes it a wisdom tool. Deep self-knowledge isn’t acquired through an online quiz. There’s no final destination. It’s not The Answer. It’s merely a constant re-balancing, re-strengthening, and re-centering.
